Darryn George

Born in Christchurch in 1970 and of Nga puhi descent. The majority of Darryn's education has been in the Canterbury region, at Canterbury University and Christchurch College, with a Master of Fine Art at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1998.

Darryn is currently the Head of Department, Art at Christs College, Christchurch. It seems fitting that the works Schedule #2, Schedule #3 and Schedule #4 were chosen to hang in the newly opened BNZ Center in Christchurch. These works are the first purchase by the BNZ for the Art Collection since 1987.

Darryn's work is primarily oil on canvas, and combines pattern, geometric shapes, cultural and current events into ordered, considered bold representations.

These particular works are a response to the devastating February 2011 Canterbury earthquakes. Largely painted in the Canterbury colours of red and black they represent the clipboards of the EQC inspectors as they visited each household in the Canterbury region following the earthquake.
