Lionel Henry Parson

Remembering former BNZers who fought in WW1 and WW2, some of whom never returned home. 

Lionel joined the BNZ at Christchurch in 1907 aged 17. He was employed as a ledgerkeeper at the time he enlisted for the Expeditionary Forces on the 14 August 1914.

Lionel was killed in action on the Gallipoli Peninsula on the 2 May 1915.

His younger brother Albert Charles Parson also worked in the BNZ Christchurch office. He joined in January 1915 and enlisted for the Expeditionary Forces in 1918 at the age of 21.

Albert returned to the bank following the end of WW1 and went on to serve in WW2 as a Squadron Leader in the RNZAF.
