John Drawbridge
1930- 2005
Drawbridge painted in a studio in Island Bay which looks out over Cook Strait. His artworks often integrate the shifting forms and textures of nature with the geometry of the window or door frame.
Sea Window No. 2 captures the stillness and movement, the closeness and the distance of the artist’s daily encounter with his environment. It also harks back to his time in England, 1957-64, when he encountered the work of Victor Pasmore and the littoral abstractions of Ben Nicholson and the St Ives painters.
